Job Purpose

The primary goal of the Crisis Communication Consultant is to develop and implement comprehensive crisis communication strategies, including training and managing crisis situations effectively for clients.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive crisis communication plans for clients.
  • Provide real-time crisis management and media relations support during crises.
  • Act as a spokesperson for clients when necessary, ensuring consistent and effective messaging.
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify potential crisis scenarios for clients.
  • Train and prepare clients’ internal teams for crisis situations through simulations and workshops.
  • Monitor media coverage and public sentiment during crises, providing analysis and recommendations.
  • Draft and disseminate crisis communication materials, including press releases, statements, and FAQs.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure aligned and effective communication strategies.
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of crisis communication efforts post-crisis.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging issues in crisis communication.

 

Reporting/Supervisory Lines

Reporting To: The Lead Partner directly and indirectly through a designated team member.

Working Relationships: Managing Partner, other Partners, Team Leads, and other members of the team as required.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in crisis communication, public relations, or a related field.
  • Experience in a PR agency or a corporate setting is highly desirable.
  • Preferred candidate must have relevant professional certification(s).

  • Media Relations: Strong media relations skills, with an established network of media contacts.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse media coverage, public sentiment, and crisis impact to provide strategic recommendations.
  • Calm Under Pressure: Ability to remain composed and effective under pressure, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. Ability to anticipate potential crises and develop proactive plans.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, media, and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during crisis situations.
  • Display of Professionalism: High degree of professionalism and good business etiquette, digital-savvy, broad-minded, flexible, empathetic, persistent, candid yet diplomatic, discreet, good sense of humour.
